    Social Impact Study for the Modification of the EMP.

    La Francia and El Hatillo Mining Project, Colombia

    CNR is a Colombian Company that has been running the La Francia and El Hatillo mines since 2010. Their area of influence is the El Paso and Chiriguana municipalities, in El Cesar, Colombia.

    SCG helped develop the social component for updating their Environmental Management Plan (EMP). We updated the corresponding baselines and implemented a strategy to disseminate information about both mining operations.

    This service included drafting informative materials and advising the company on the house-to-house visits carried out in the Project’s surrounding areas. This strengthened the population’s knowledge regarding the Project’s operations and corresponding extensions.

    Before this, the four mining companies that work in the area, (including CNR) had begun a process to resettle various local populations, as required by the Colombian state. As a result, SCG had to design its actions to differentiate its work from the on-going resettlement process and the local expectations surrounding it.

    The process helped CNR to comply with the guidelines required by the National Environmental Licensing Agency regarding participation, which facilitated their approval of the EMP.
